Ricky Martin says he felt numb when he came out earlier this year.

The 38-year-old sent a mass email announcing the news in March and felt scared, but relieved afterward, he says on Tuesday's Oprah Winfrey Show.

"I just pressed 'send' ... My assistant walked in and I just started crying like a little baby," Martin tells Winfrey. "He goes, 'Let it go. Let it go. Finally you're free.'"

Ricky Martin proud to be "a fortunate gay man"

Martin, who became a dad to twin boys, Valentino and Matteo, via a surrogate in 2008, says his children prompted him to come out as a "proud homosexual man."

"Before I decided to become a father, I already accepted who I was and I was happy with who I was. Then, when I was I was holding my children, I said, 'OK, it's time to tell the world,'" he says.

- She says people manipulate the relationship all the time, claiming it was never real or that it was a front to cover Ricky's personal life. She says it was 100% real.

- "When I was dating him he didn't know he was gay. I didn't either. We were a man and a woman wanting to be together".

- She says they broke up because of scheduling conflicts, not wanting to have children or having different projects. It had nothing to do with him being gay. Gurl, then why did he come out to you when you broke up?. THEN she says they were very much in love until he "changed his sexual preferences and left her".

- "We had a solid relationship. We wanted to get married and have a family. Seven years ago we were still together." I thought you said you broke up because one of you didn't want to have kids.

- "If he chose a different path after being with me, I respect that" ...

- "He told me he was gay, so when the news came out I wasn't shocked. I know the world was very shocked (lol) but I knew it years after we broke up and I gave him all my support". GURL, get your story straight. did he tell you when you broke up? did you break up for that reason or was it years after you broke up? I mean you're not eleven. shit.

- "I've been unfairly judged, many of my peers in the press have lied about me and said I'm a... nevermind. It's not worth repeating. It's not true. I know the truth. I'm a woman that lives life with intensity, transparency and authenticity".
